This flight was funded through the tremendous support of Chuck and Kimberly Anderson and is being flown in the memory of WWII Veteran SSgt Emory A Anderson Sr., who never had the opportunity to visit his memorial.
Collier County Honor Flight kicks off the 2015 flying season with Mission Five as it departs from RSW (Fort Myers International Airport) on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015. Seventy-one treasured Veterans (70 World War II and one Korean War) will travel with their Guardians via Allegiant Flight 4952 at 7:30 am for a one day trip to our nation’s capital. While in Washington, the Veterans who range in age from 88 to 101 years old, will witness the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery and will visit the following memorials: World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iwo Jima, and the Air Force Memorial.
The group of 69 men and 2 women are from Collier and Lee Counties. They served in all branches of the service: Army, Navy, Army Air Corps (Air Force,) Marines, Coast Guard, and the Merchant Marines. Naples area Honor Flight travelers will assemble at Naples Airport on May 2nd at 4:30 am. They will travel by bus to RSW with escorts from Patriot Guard Riders and the Collier County Sheriff’s Department. Fort Myers travelers will meet at RSW at 5:30 am. The return flight, Allegiant 4953, will land at approximately 10:15 pm. More than 1,000 family members, local Service Members, local Law Enforcement and community well wishers are expected at the RSW Welcome Home ceremony. Another Welcome Home will take place at Naples Airport at 11:30 pm. All are welcome!
